Across the Ocean
In my piece I am referring to the European settlers in Hamilton, arriving on the river, over the ocean from the other side of the world, following their heart on the wings of their imagination. It is my own story as well as the one of many before me, and like me, reality probably did hit them hard when they arrived. Coming from Northern Germany, which has a strong seafaring history the style I am using here is a homage to the illustration style used to illuminate shanties and maritime tattoos.
