What steps are involved?

It’s really simple to Adopt-a-Box. We’ve mapped out all the steps you need to below. To find out more about any of the steps, simply click on the links.

  1. Choose a traffic signal box. Click here to view the locations of all available traffic signal boxes.
  2. Contact Hamilton City Council and have the traffic signal box allocated to you. To reserve an available traffic signal box please email the traffic signal box number to Hamilton City Council.
  3. Get inspired. There are lots of things that could spark a great design idea for you. Click here for a wee bit of inspiration. Or click here for some information on Hamilton’s suburbs
  4. Create full colour designs of exactly what you want to paint on the traffic signal box and email or post them in.
  5. Click here to download a template which you can create your designs on. Designs should include all four sides of the traffic signal box.
  6. Click here to email your finished designs to Hamilton City Council for approval, or post your designs to:

  7. Hamilton City Council will contact you and let you know if your design has been approved or if any alterations are required
  8. Once your design is approved you will be mailed an Artist's Agreement which needs to be read, signed and returned.
  9. You will then receive an Acceptance Notice by post which tells you where and when to collect your Adopt-a-Box Pack.
  10. Collect your Adopt-a-Box Pack.
  11. Paint your traffic signal box.
  12. Return Adopt-a-Box Pack, submit photos and feedback forms.
  13. Celebrate and promote the project to your friends and family!
